LUMS & UNINA team up to assess energy needs of isolated communities in Pakistan
In November 2023, the project’s team of social science experts from Università degli Studi di Napoli Federico II (UNINA) visited the project’s team of electric engineering experts from Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) for a week-long collaboration to exchange about the project and gather information about energy practices and assess community needs.
The group visited partially-electrified and fully off-grid villages of Multan, located around 300 km to the southwest of Lahore. Their work involved focus group discussions with men and women of the villages and interviews with relevant stakeholders.
Reesha Arshad, PhD student at LUMS working on LoCEL-H2, said: “It was miraculous how social scientists and electrical engineers worked together and managed to conclude the work in a span of a day and a half, given we had to pack-up before sunset and three different languages, with multiple accents and intonations, were involved.”
