LoCEL-H2 Project at the East Midlands Hydrogen Summit
The LoCEL-H2 Project team had a wonderful time at the East Midlands Hydrogen Summit earlier this month.
The exhibition, which showcased the East Midlands’ journey towards industrial decarbonisation and a thriving green economy, provided an excellent opportunity to share our work and connect with industry leaders advancing net zero innovation.
The Mayor of the East Midlands, Claire Ward, delivered a keynote speech outlining her vision for green and inclusive growth, joined by speakers from Balfour Beatty plc, Toyota Motor Corporation, Cadent Gas Limited, National Energy System Operator, University of Nottingham and of course, our consortium members Loughborough University.

Dr Elizabeth Ashton, who delivered a talk on the development of the LoCEL-H2 Battery Electrolyser to the delegation, reflected on the event:
‘It was fantastic to join regional leaders, industry innovators, and policymakers to celebrate the momentum building around clean hydrogen in the East Midlands, a leader in the UK’s energy transition.
I was delighted to present the battery–electrolyser technology developed through the LoCEL-H2 Project, demonstrating how innovative battery storage solutions can integrate with hydrogen production to enable sustainable energy production and prevent renewable energy curtailment.
From Mayor of the East Midlands, Claire Ward’s vision for green and inclusive growth to Cadent Gas Limited’s new pipeline announcement and the impressive GeoPura 15MW renewable hydrogen setup at HyMarnham Power, the event showcased the collaboration and innovation driving the region’s hydrogen future.’
A huge thank you to East Midlands Hydrogen and all partners involved for creating such a great platform for progress. Together, the region is building the skills, infrastructure, and technology needed to deliver a sustainable, hydrogen-powered future! ⚡
