The LoCEL-H2 Project team at Loughborough University had a fantastic time at the Royal Society Summer Exhibition!
The event took place at Jodrell Bank, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to the UK’s largest radio telescope, which helped spark the new science of radio astronomy back in 1957.

Dr Elizabeth Ashton, Research Associate and LoCEL-H2 Team member, summarised the event:
“Brilliant to see so much enthusiasm for science and renewable energy, from curious youngsters to students already planning further education and university study in science, technology and engineering disciplines.”
“For me it was particularly nice to see so many young girls excited about science and hydrogen energy technologies. Lots of girls came to our stand and created ‘new molecules’ with the Molymod (chemistry lego stuff) and really engaged with my presentation asking questions at the end like ‘is hydrogen safe?’, ‘how does electricity exist’ and ‘will hydrogen power our future.

People loved exploring our battery–electrolyser system to be deployed in Africa through the VR headset, this was a massive hit and a great way of bringing our research to life.”
Just as Jodrell Bank was borne out of tackling some of humanity’s biggest challenges in the 20th century, LoCEL-H2 is focused on harnessing clean, reliable, sustainable energy as a solution to today’s climate challenges.
