Looking back at ELBC: Sharing Progress and Building Connections in Vienna
In September 2026, many members of the LoCEL-H2 project came together in Vienna for an excellent ELBC event. The conference provided a valuable opportunity to reconnect with project partners and supporters, exchange knowledge, and share emerging results with a wider audience.
A strong contribution from the LoCEL-H2 community
It was particularly rewarding to see so many people connected with LoCEL-H2 contributing to the programme. Elizabeth Ashton, Nicolas Clement, Angel Kirchev, Goetz Langer, Bernhard Riegel, Dani Strickland–plus advisory-board member Pritpal Singh–all delivered insightful presentations and helped make the event a success. The CBI/ILA team were part of the organisation of the event, and also presented the high-level findings of the project.
Their contributions reflected the breadth of expertise behind LoCEL-H2 and the value of bringing together researchers, technology specialists, industry partners and the next generation of engineers. Events such as ELBC create space not only to present findings, but also to test ideas, hear different perspectives and identify where project learning can have a wider impact.
Results with relevance beyond the project
LoCEL-H2 is focused on developing practical approaches to sustainable energy access, but the work being carried out by the partnership is also producing results that are useful beyond the immediate remit of the project. Sharing these insights with the wider research and industry community is an important part of maximising their value.
The discussions in Vienna underlined the importance of collaboration when addressing complex energy challenges. By combining knowledge from across the partnership and contributing evidence to wider technical conversations, LoCEL-H2 can help inform future research, technology development and real-world deployment.
Collaboration at the heart of LoCEL-H2
The progress presented at ELBC is made possible by the commitment and expertise of the project’s partners and contributors, including CEA, Hollingsworth & Vose, HOPPECKE Batteries, Loughborough University, Villanova University and CBI/ILA.
Thank you to everyone who presented, contributed to the discussions or supported the event. We are also grateful to the European Commission and Horizon Europe for their support of the LoCEL-H2 project.
We look forward to continuing these conversations and sharing further results as the project heads towards its conclusion.
