LoCEL-H2 goals & timeline
LoCEL-H2 is an innovative, four-year Horizon Europe project that started in January 2023 and is creating a scalable microgrid system to support isolated communities that lack consistent energy sources for electricity and clean cooking.
With the novel energy solution in development, consisting of solar energy production for electricity, advanced lead battery-based system for energy storage and combined lead battery-electrolyser producing green hydrogen for clean cooking fuel, LoCEL-H2 will provide a sustainable, affordable, and flexible renewable energy source for remote communities that cannot currently access an existing, reliable grid infrastructure.
Additionally, LoCEL-H2 will
Where will LoCEL-H2 be deployed?
LoCEL-H2 will conduct two pilot programs, one located in Zambia and the other in Côte d’Ivoire, for approximately 30 households and businesses (per community). The energy solution focuses on both electrical as well as clean fuel energy needs and is easily expandable to any number of units based on the community needs.
